Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune, inflammatory disease
that leads to destruction of the joints. It is characterized
by inflammation of the synovium which is the protective and nourishing
lining within the joint space itself. Left untreated, rheumatoid
arthritis causes joint destruction resulting in chronic pain, loss
of movement, deformity and disability. Over time, rheumatoid arthritis
may rob patients of the ability to lead productive and fulfilling
lives. Recently researchers have also discovered that
patients with Rheumatoid arthritis die younger from many causes including
cancer and heart disease.
Rheumatoid Arthritis symptoms and diagnosis
Early Diagnosis
Early diagnosis and effective treatment
of rheumatoid arthritis is crucial to preserving a normal lifestyle
and lifespan. No
one knows exactly what causes rheumatoid arthritis or how to cure it
yet. However, two important facts are now apparent. First, great
progress has been made in managing the disease such that early
diagnosis and aggressive treatment can result in disease
remission. Second, a cure for RA is on the horizon according to the
ACR Research and Education Foundation. We have state of
the art imaging and laboratory facilities on site to help provide an
early and accurate diagnosis in order to initiate therapy.
If you believe you have RA or your physician
has told you have RA please call us at 847-779-6766, 847- 779-6786.
To expedite your evaluation you'll receive a prompt call back.
The Facts Visit
In order to achieve the best outcome (remission of
your disease with minimal side effects from treatment) a comprehensive
assessment of your arthritis must be made initially and on an ongoing
basis ((the inFlammatory Arthritis
disease aCTivity aSsessment (FACTS™)).
We obtain the FACTS from a panel of clinical, laboratory and imaging
evaluations performed initially
and over time. In addition to the FACTS
important for your arthritis care we will also suggest other studies
and behavioral modifications which can be helpful for you and your
primary care physician to reduce your cardiovascular and cancer risk
profiles. It’s
through this careful ongoing management program that you can expect
to achieve the best outcome.
